OK, so depsite all the, I purchased the 'old piece of crap' piano from a local estate consignment store for $500, and had the piano mover/technician set it up in my shop for repairs.
Sinhala video songs free download. It spent the first few weeks on the piano board while I welded & re-shaped the cast iron leg plates, one of which was completely broken in half. It wasn't obvious at first, but the first time I tried to stand it up it appeared one of the legs was also broken loose from the base, this one I had to re-dowel and glue. Once I got it stood up, I began working on replacing a few pieces of veneer, and working on any repairs/adjustments needed on the action. Serial# 90478 which puts it manufactured around 1920-1925, and the numbers match on the frame, action and music holder. Called a piano tech to help stand it up and inspect, he confirms the following restoration work has already been performed, perhaps within the last 10 years: • Replaced pinblock • All new tuning pins • Hammers & damper felt • New strings • Soundboard likely refinished or replaced • Harp re-gold • Various exterior/finishing repair and touch-ups Replaced a few pieces of veneer on the front, and drilled, filled and re-drilled any screw holes that had been stripped out.
The lyre was the worst, all the screws were broken and/or stripped. Had to drill out and remove the old screws, replace & re-glue the bracer arms on the back. Technician is a great guy, passionate about his work, and was an enormous help. I seriously cannot thank him enough. Gave me a lot of guidance throughout the process, as I read through learning how to adjust various parts of the action and other minor repairs. I hold an extraordinary appreciation towards the craftsmen of nearly 100 years ago that created this piece of art, I can only imagine the amount of work that went into creating such a precision piece of machinery back in those days. My work on the action included: • Adjusting the capstan to bring all the hammers back up to correct level • Let-off adjustment • A few of the damper rods had some play, some were not raising high enough, tightened and adjusted these • Sustain pedal action also had some slop, tightened this up and adjusted • Sostenuto pedal action also needed adjustment (still not 100% good on this - but will get there) • Fixed some squeaky keys Overall, I think it turned out awesome.
Her first time seeing it was yesterday, she was, without a doubt, excited. She hasn't stopped playing it since. The mahogany exterior is gorgeous, it sounds gorgeous, and through the whole process, I learned a lot. I still can't play, but I feel pretty confident now at adjusting or repairing anything that may go wrong. I appreciate the kind words. A modern grand would have been great, but probably way out of my price range (was looking to spend $1,500 or less).
