Finally Got there thanks. I have a BD5500 with the latest firmware. I was able to downgrade the firmware via the help To do this, I first restored factory settings on the BD Player. (Hold stop button on machine for 8 secs) I then changed the DNS settings that SamyGo suggest. At this stage the Software Update option was greyed out. I then went into the setup menu in my router and added the IP address of the DNS server within DNS Settings. I was then able to download the firmware that was labelled 1090.

After restarting the player I could then press Repeat and my region code followed by 9. Multi Region now working (I went to all this hassle just so my Aussie GF can watch a chick flick from home. Just a quick question as a friend wants to buy a player that can be made coderfree for DVDs, no need for BD unlocking. What confuses me is that instead of the D we have an F, so it is a Samsung BD-F5500, is there a difference, or should this work as well as described here?

(with all the firmware hassle.). Quick help would be appreciated as the special price is only for tomorrow I could not find a thread with a list of all current players which can be made codefree easily for DVDs, is there one?

I am out of the loop since I have my Toshiba 3200. I realize that my opinion/findings might be late but after going through this thread I thought I might add a small update. Please feel free to correct me if you guys think what I've stated below is wrong. First off, I'm in the middle east (UAE). I had a Philips BD player which I didn't use much but recently turned it on and found out that it had busted.

So I searched the net and finally decided to buy the Samsung BD-H5500 player. I updated the firmware from the Samsung UAE website (latest firmware available for this region as of 23 July 2015 is Version 1010.0 Updated the blu ray player and started feeding it blu ray movies from various regions ( I buy from Amazon as well as locally). All my blu ray dics played without a hitch (Region coded A, B and region-free). Discs which would not play on my Philips player were now playable on my Samsung. I also wanted a player which could play mkv and mp4 files and I wasn't disappointed. Now for the DVDs part.

As you guys probably know, the Middle East DVD region code is 2. This is where I'm baffled. The player can play blu ray discs from all regions but only plays region code 2 DVDs?? I have gone through the thread, but I haven't region-cracked the player as stated here.

I do have a doubt - do we lose the region free blu ray playability if I use the crack to get region free DVD playability?? Has anyone experienced what I've stated here? **The Middle East version on the BD-H5500 version has the remote with the Return button.** I'm keen to find out what you guys have experienced. I will hold off on the DVD region free hack for now till I get more information. Thank you guys for taking the time to go through. Please do let me know if my information might be wrong.

Thank you Armitage. I agree with you that having region free blu ray playability is way better then DVD region free playability but the only reason I wish I had both is because I have a few old series and some cartoon shows for my child which I wanted to play. I've held off from using this region free hack. I'm still waiting to see if anyone else has had the same experience as me. I put in the X-men First Class blu ray (bought from Amazon USA) in and it played just fine. The same disc wouldn't play on my old Philips BD player. By the way, the old player would play all DVDs.

Can anyone confirm for me if the all-region hacks / firmware downgrades for these players are still working? When was the last success for anyone here?

I have not been able to use the unlocking code per the VideoHelp instructions, after trying it many times, with many different variations (e.g. Using either of the REPEAT buttons, trying STOP as well as RETURN instead; both with opening and not opening the tray; using cold starts; alternative fast successive typing and steady deliberate keying in of the sequence; pressing buttons during and after the 'No Disc' menu appears; etc., to no avail). Nor have I been able to complete the reversion of the firmware via the method instructed in the post referring to the SamyGo sources for new firmware, which would [possibly] allow the hack. Is there an updated DNS address now to get the downgrade?
