This document discusses the following topics: • How.
Using windows 2003 I am trying to implement dfs, linking it to a share on a netapp filer. I ahve created a link and am trying to replicate it to another server. When setting up replication I get a message (in the replication wizard) that dfs is not installed on the target. This is true as the target is a netapp filer running ontap O/S. I could potentially map the netapp filer from a server and then use the server as an access point for the share. However, in this case it means the users will need to access the share via the server (relying on the server being up) OR via netappfiler sharename rather than via the dfs published share. Because netapp filers do not run Windows os's, there are some limitations to dfs: 1.
Kya khub lagti ho badi sundar dikhati ho song download. Netapp cifs shares can not be dfs roots but they can be branches. Our practice is to create distributed roots on our dc's and add the netapp cifs shares as branches. Netapp cifs shares can not participate in dfs replication. Netapp recommends using snapmirror to handle the replication (requiring multiple filers.) So, basically, you get the benefit of dfs namespaces but you do not get the benefit of replication using netapp filers as a cifs share. An alternative is to have a windows box (physical or virtual) attach to the san storage (iscsi, fc, etc) and serve out the dfs using the windows box as the head. Not a great solution, either, but that is the conclusion I came to when researching Netapp's NOW, kb articles, and community sites 6 months ago regarding this same issue.
